My husband, the Bald Genius, often says that an attraction is only as great as its staff. I have to say that his belief rang true throughout our visit to SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium. From the moment that we arrived, and until our exit, we found smiling, knowledgeable staffers. Everyone was eager answer all of Superkiddo's questions, all 5 billion of them, and we had a blast!
Flash photography was not allowed in most areas, so that we would not disturb the tank inhabitants. We still managed to capture a few of our favorite moments.
SEA LIFE is the home to over 5,000 sea creatures, 30 displays, and a 360 degree ocean tunnel.
This place is so much more than your average aquarium, and is nothing like the boring field trips from my elementary years.
Visitors can view a short film about rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing sea turtles, as well as learn about sharks on giant, wall-mounted, touchscreens. We had the opportunity to get up close and personal with underwater life, and learn about our favorite sea animals. There is even a section where it feels as though all that separates you from the sharks is a small, mesh-like grate in the floor. Superkiddo was quite excited about standing over stingrays and sharks, while the Bald Genius and I tried very hard not to remember the goofy, glass breaking shark from the movie Jaws 3.
Superkiddo enjoyed venturing on a fact-finding mission, and receiving a prize at the end of his visit. He was also quite fond of the rehabilitation area for rescued turtles.
SEA LIFE is filled with hands-on learning sections, and even a play area for the littlest visitors to run off any excess energy. There are many interactive stations, as well as reference tidbits printed on the walls. You would find something in every corner to catch your attention, and I would bet that you'd learn something new, too.
I found that your itinerary can be as relaxed as you wish for it to be. You can tailor your experience at SEA LIFE to fit your preferences. Although there are staff members throughout the facility, they are not guiding, or pacing you through the center. We didn't feel the need to rush, or flow through the displays by a certain time. We even revisited a few of our favorite areas, and did not experience much crowding.
Visiting SEA LIFE was an entertaining, engaging, educational expedition, and I would recommend this location as a great trip for the entire family. Opening hours are Mondays - Saturdays, 10AM - 7:30PM, and on Sundays, 11AM - 5:30PM. Current pricing, special events, and ticketing information may be obtained on the website.
